The Painted Desert

On the road from the Catwalk to Flagstaff.... we stopped on the road in the painted desert [our first stop in Arizona]. We pulled in 15 minutes before the park was about to close... which made it a very quick drive through... but also made it absolutely free. Not bad. I don't really know how much saying there is to say about this part. It is one of the moments on our trip that can really only be read in pictures.
Apart of the Painted Desert is the petrified forest. There are the remnants of crystalized trees strewn about the desert... from what chris and i could understand- to be a result of volcanic activity.... somehow the lava did not burn the trees but preserved them. It was like walking through the Ice Queen's territory in Narnia.... The trees has been turned to stone. Frozen in time.

The road to flagstaff............................................................................................................ flat.
